2010 Black Bass Invitational Competition
held on the 21st & 22nd of August 2010
This years Black Bass Comp was sponsored by
- Gold Coast Customs Rods
- TNT
- Trukai & Pacific industries
With all the rivers looking the best they have in years it all indicated that all boats were going to go through a heap of tackle over the weekend!
Unfortunately (for most) nearly all the bass were caught in two spots in the “new†Vanapa section of the river. (Old grassy creek)
Chris Hagen & Rob Doyle had done their homework weeks before with around 12 Bass pulled out & released in two sections of the river. These two blokes were in for a shock on Saturday morning when they were visited by Albert Tan who had apparently also done his home work & found that this section of the reach was firing. (Chris has spent the last two weeks trying to find the tracking device Albert must of planted in his boat “Kermit†)
Sunday morning was a misty affair on the water, however it didn’t stop
- Peter Ruffy & crew on “pierced flapsâ€
- Robbo & crew on “yes we have noâ€
- Lutz & crew on “U boatâ€
- Albert & crew on “the yellow perilâ€
- John Bettie & the beautiful Joanne on board “Barra only pleaseâ€
All turning up to have a go in Bass Strait.
For those who are interested the results are as follows.
Heaviest Black Bass 10.05kg went to Rob “the bass man†Doyle

Special mention to John Bettie & crew for catching seven Barra during the Bass comp. They are looking forward to catching plenty of Bass in the Barra comp in October.
At total of 18 Black Bass were caught over the two days with only 3 fish taken home. The rest were returned to cause havoc to other fisho’s in the years to come.

The haus was well used & nothing was broken! Rob Doyle disappeared to bed again straight away after a wonderful meal cooked by Gadget on the Saturday night. He hears plans are afoot to prevent this happening again in the future with more lively entertainment to be provided by FOS & BC.
A number of blokes stayed at Anna’s Road House up the track & had a wonderful time. Some of the blokes even went to bed before 3am!It was noted that Robbo had to “move†Robin Lang out of the mightily powerful “yes we have no†boat with the 15hp Merc over to U Boat so he could get to the hot spot before lines out on Sunday!
The next comp is the AON ultra light & light to be fished on the 19th September.
Till then tight lines & cold beer.
